Over and over, I’ve seen how Bible study changes my imperfect heart and brings me peace and purpose. Women’s Bible study lessons slowly transform me into the mom, wife and daughter of God I really want to be.
But for many of us studying the Bible on our own can be intimidating! You may want to grow closer to God through daily Bible lessons, but you wonder:
- Which Bible verses should I read?
- How do I really understand the Bible?
- How can I study the Bible effectively?
- What’s a great Bible study method?
- How can I really apply biblical truths to my life?
I want to share with you my easy Bible study method that allows you to glean amazing insight from any scripture verse called the 5Rs Bible Study Method™. This will allow you to study the Bible for yourself!
The 5Rs Bible Study Method™ is how I’ve taught thousands of women (and kids!) all over the world how to read and study the Bible on their own.
There’s no devotionals or separate women’s Bible study to purchase. The 5Rs Bible Study Method™ is a simple way to do a daily women’s Bible study for free.
P.S. Do you want to know how to grow closer to God or to know God personally? If you would like to learn more about what it means to have a personal relationship with God, I highly encourage you to read this post. By the way, He loves you and wants you to get to know Him too! Here’s a simple way to start a relationship with Christ.
How Does the 5Rs Bible Study Method™ Work?
The 5Rs Bible Study Method™ is one of the best ways to study the Bible effectively because it gives a step-by-step way for anyone to understand and apply any scripture.
I call this Bible study tool the “5 Rs” because it consists of five steps that all start with an “R”:
- Relate/Reveal, and
It’s an easy, free, inductive Bible study method that works. And all you need is a Bible, a notebook and a pen or pencil!
Each of the five steps are easy to remember and to memorize (especially with this free printable bookmark).
Watch the video below to see how the 5Rs Bible Study Method™ is a wonderful tool for women’s bible study lessons:
Why Was the 5Rs Bible Study Method™ Created?
I first created the 5Rs Bible Study Method™ because I wanted a practical, powerful Bible study tool for my kids to do their daily Bible lessons.
You see, I’d been using an inductive Bible study method for my own morning Bible time for years, but I needed a way to easily explain to my kids how to study the Bible on their own.
But then I realized something: So many adults (including many of the women I met) really had no idea how to study the Bible on their own.
Maybe they participated in women’s Bible studies at their church, but I heard so many of them asking, “How can I really understand the Bible and apply biblical truths to my life (without having to depend on a womens Bible study lesson or devotional)?”
That’s when I realized the power of the 5Rs Bible Study Method™!
P.S. A Bible bookmark makes it even easier to remember the 5Rs Bible Study Method™!
Why Women’s Devotionals or Pre-Planned Women’s Bible Study Lessons Aren’t Enough
Yes, there are some amazing women’s devotionals and women’s Bible studies out there.
However, I strongly believe that every Christian woman needs to know how to understand and apply God’s word to her life–without needing to rely on a women’s devotional or pre-planned women’s Bible study lesson to discover answers.
As Christians, we need to know where to go in the Bible to get answers and we need to know how to take Bible verses and apply them in real and relevant ways.
We need to know how to access the rich wisdom and truths of scripture, and the only way to do that is to know how to study the Bible effectively.
Because the 5Rs Bible Study Method is simple and easy to remember, I’m convinced that this Bible study method is one of the best ways for women to study the Bible.
You’ll want to use this Bible study method during family devotion time, your personal Bible time or even to help friends and family understand and apply scripture in powerful ways!
Let’s take a closer look at each step in the 5Rs Bible Study Method™ so that you can see for yourself how awesome it is for daily women’s Bible study lessons.
How to Use the 5 Rs Bible Study Method™ for Daily Women’s Bible Lessons
First, pick a Bible verse or group of verses. Let’s say we choose one of my favorites, Psalm 34:4-6.
Next, write the words “Read”, “Rewrite,” “Restate,” “Relate,” and “Respond” down the left-side margin of a lined piece of paper. Be sure to leave lots of lines between each of the words.
Then begin working through the 5Rs for that set of Bible verses, writing a response next to each of the “Rs”.
P.S. Want a free printable bookmark with a brief explanation of each step?
Yep, it can really come in handy (especially when creating your own daily women’s Bible lessons).
It’s also the perfect tool to mark the section of scripture you’re reading!
Step-By-Step Explanation of the 5Rs Bible Study Method™
Let’s walk through each of the 5Rs steps so you can see for yourself how the 5Rs makes it easy to create your own Bible study lessons.
Step 1: Read
Read the passage (Psalm 34:4-6 in our example).
Step 2: Rewrite
Copy the entire verse (as its written in that translation) onto the lined paper.
For example, here’s how you’d write Psalm 34:4-6 as the theme verse from the New Living Translation:
I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me.
He freed me from all my fears.
Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy;
no shadow of shame will darken their faces.
In my desperation I prayed, and the Lord listened;
he saved me from all my troubles.
Step 3: Restate
Write down the verse again, but this time, write it in your own words. Going word-by-word (and without interpretation), ask yourself how you’d best describe the action/truth in this passage.
Here’s my example:
“I cried out to God and he heard my cry and responded. He took all my fears away. Everyone who calls on him for help with their troubles will have spirits that are full of joy; they will not be weighed down by shame or guilt. In my greatest hour of need I prayed to God and he listened; he carried me through and helped me solve my troubles.”
NOTE: I’d suggest trying to use different-yet-equivalent words from the Bible translation when walking through this step. By substituting new words in, you’ll understand each word in the Bible verse on a deeper level. Of course it’s important to not choose words that would change the meaning of the verse.
Step 4: Relate
For this step of the Bible lesson, quiet your heart and listen to God’s voice. As you are processing the biblical truths and listening to God, consider these type of questions:
- What is God trying to communicate through this scripture?
- What other stories/scriptures does this Bible verse remind me of?
- What circumstances in my life (or in the lives of others that I know) does this remind me of?
Here’s my example from Psalm 34:4-6:
I can see so many times when I’ve cried out to God and he’s rescued me! I love that when He rescues us it’s always done in a way that’s best for us and may not necessarily be comfortable for us. He loves us so much that He is willing to walk us through any hard situation, and within that situation, give us the strength to endure and the wisdom to get through it. This truth also reminds me of the story of Joseph in the Bible.
Step 5: Respond
For this final step of the Bible lesson, ask yourself this question:
Now that you know this truth, how will you live differently today?
Here’s what I wrote for our Psalm 34:4-6 example:
Knowing that God is with me brings great clarity and comfort. Sometimes in the midst of a trial, it’s easy to think that God hasn’t heard our cries or doesn’t care. And yet, today, as I think about those things that are challenging me, I feel peace because I know that he has heard my cry and is “working all things for my good.” I can continue to persevere and to be strong!
