Why do we women sabotage ourselves by telling each other that “all is well,” and that “homeschooling is busy but good”? Why do we insist on a diet of these superficial conversations that don’t allow us to truly share community with our homeschooling sisters?
Why can’t we say—in normal conversations—that we lost it four times with our kids (just this morning!)?
Why can’t we admit to having a relentless, insatiable need to continually compare ourselves to other moms?
And why can’t we confess that despite tons of Pinterest boards full of curriculum ideas and numerous websites eager to offer “homeschooling helps,” we still have days where we’re overwhelmed and confused about how to make homeschooling actually work?
This is what was keeping me up at night about five months ago. This was the unsettling emotion that plagued my thoughts and kept me on my knees.
What is the missing piece? I asked God. What else in the world do we homeschoolers need to be happy and to be connected, Lord? And why can’t we just be real about these things? What are we afraid of?
And most of all, why can’t so many of us have homeschooling joy?
Over the next few weeks, God revealed several insights into these questions:
First, we homeschoolers have confused joy with happiness. We’ve bought the lie that a healthy homeschooling life should be stress-free and every day should be full of blissful, happy moments spent with our kids (or something was wrong). We haven’t translated the biblical concept of joy—a steady undercurrent of hope and direction—into our every day homeschool lives.
Second, many of us desire to homeschool, but have no idea how to make a homeschool day actually happen. How in the world do we work with a child’s natural learning flow… and still get the dishes done and the laundry folded?
Third, many of us are being stifled—literally strangled!—by a crippling sense of shame. We continually feel inadequate and “not enough” (perfectionism); are defined and driven by those homeschoolers around us (comparison); and feel demoralized and embarrassed by our inability to express our frustration in healthy ways (anger).
These revolutionary, God-given insights became the heartbeat behind the brand-new online video course “bloom: A Journey to Joy (and Sanity) for Homeschooling Moms.”
“bloom” tackles these issues head-on. First, “bloom” addresses the topics through a pre-recorded online teaching video that participants can access on their schedule (here is a small snippet from one of the classes);
…and second, “bloom” applies the information in personal, powerful ways using journaling, exercises, charts and other insightful tools (known as the At-Home Discovery packet). Click here to view the “bloom” At-Home Discovery Packet preview!
In addition, “bloom” participants get to dialog with other class participants (and with me) through a private Facebook group.
“bloom” consists of:
—Seven approximately 20-minute long, pre-recorded training videos, plus;
—Seven corresponding “At-Home Discovery Packets” (78 pages of in-depth exercises, resources and life-changing activities, plus a bonus video)
—Lifetime access to a private online Facebook community of other “bloom” participants
All for only $49! (Those of you that have taken online classes before can attest that this is a steal for an online video training course of this depth and caliber!)
From Lisa, “bloom” participant:
“The At-Home Discovery Packet alone is worth the price of this class! I am a very busy mama but working through the packet each week helped me slow down and think through the topics in ways I have not done in a long time. I was excited to end up with several ‘ah-ha!’ moments and new strategies to use in my homeschool arsenal. There were several pages in the packets that I made copies of for others in my family that I knew would benefit them. My binder of ‘bloom’ notes has a home next to my homeschool planner, as I am continually referring to one worksheet or another!”
From Eryn,”bloom” participant:
“The topics Alicia covers are universal to homeschoolers. The difference however, lies in the At-Home Discovery Packets—they are unlike anything I have ever encountered! The resources are designed to help you ‘dig deep’ and identify problems as well as find solutions that are unique to your homeschooling needs. Truly this is invaluable and all moms can benefit from this personal approach.”
Here are the class titles:
Class 1: The Big Fat Lies (and the Truths That Set Us Free)
Class 2: Firm Foundations: Building Rhythm Around Daily Pillars
Class 3: Steps to Simple (and Rest-Filled) Days
Class 4: Homeschooling Joy Stealers: Part 1: The Perfectionist Vice
Class 5: Homeschooling Joy Stealers: Part 2: The Comparison Leech
Class 6: Homeschooling Joy Stealers: Part 3: The Anger Monster
Class 7: The Path to Perennial (not Annual) Joy
From Colleen, “bloom” participant:
“I love how ‘bloom’ doesn’t offer a cookie cutter solution for everyone, but rather it gives the tools necessary for each mom to find a solution that works for her individual family. This class far exceeded my expectations.”
I personally know the power behind this class because it totally rocked my world as I was putting it together! There truly is nothing else like it out there.
“bloom” is so much more than just a seven-week online video class. It truly has the power to transform how you homeschool—not in terms of the “proper” way to teach or run a class, but by helping you come to terms with the core issues that all homeschoolers deal with.
It’s a chance for us to be real with ourselves, and to be surrounded by a community of others that also want to find lasting homeschooling joy in the imperfect everyday.
Only good can come from being real with each other about these things, right?
If a class like this sounds like just what you need, I’d love your help in a few ways.
First, join us as a “bloom” class participant. Although there is no class “start date” since all classes are pre-recorded, I would love to have you experience “bloom” yourself and share it with others.
Second, help me spread the word! Please pin, like, tweet and basically re-post this post within your homeschooling networks. Let’s tell everyone we know about these classes and get healthy together!
My hope is that this course is truly be revolutionary for homeschoolers across the world—freeing moms to live healthy, truly joy-filled lives. This course isn’t meant to give the “right answers,” but to introduce the issues and to help guide moms toward their unique definition of homeschooling joy for the current season. My goal—from the bottom of my heart—is to help as many moms as possible get healthy and discover a true sense of joy.
Can you imagine a world of healthy homeschooling moms who are doing their imperfect best to love and encourage each other through these tricky (and rarely talked about) core issues?
Think of the change that can happen within us… and how that can radiate out to how we love and guide our families!
Excited yet? Me too!
Please join me in telling others about this course. Let’s stir up the hunger and the need to talk about these issues!
Thanks for spreading the word, and I’m eager to experience “bloom” with all of you!
