Natural Kitchen Cleaning Tip #1:
Use This (Almost Free!) Trick to Clean Your Oven
Natural Cleaning Recipe: Baking Soda and Water
I can’t tell you how gross my oven gets (I know I’m not the only one, right?). You know it’s bad when you can barely see through the glass window on the door.
I chalk my dirty oven up to too many dripping casseroles and to my cake batter that likes to runneth over. Ok, and to just not cleaning it enough.
Thankfully there’s an easy kitchen cleaning hack for this. Simply make a paste of baking soda and water in a small bowl and apply it to the oven with a paper towel!
How much baking soda do you use? I knew you’d ask that. Just use enough to make a watery paste, and then make enough of that paste to clean your oven. I’d start with a ratio of around 2 tablespoons baking soda to 1 tablespoon water.
Apply the baking soda and use good old fashioned elbow grease to combat that oven grease build up. If the paste starts to dry out, add a little more water. Wipe clean with water when you’re done.
You may need to apply two treatments of the baking soda and water paste (depending on how dirty your oven is). I couldn’t believe that after this simple kitchen cleaning idea I could see my reflection in my oven door!
Natural Kitchen Cleaning Hack #2:
How to Make Your Kitchen Sponge Last Twice As Long
Cleaning Item Needed: Microwave
This is a kitchen trick that my mom taught me years ago. And let me tell you, we use it all the time!
When your kitchen sponge starts to smell (you know what I’m talking about!), throw it in the microwave for about 20-30 seconds. By microwaving the sponge, you’ll kill some of the bacteria and mildew that have accumulated on the sponge’s surface (the source of the stink).
Your sponge won’t look any different than before, but it will smell better. For sure.
And while you’re not completely removing these odor-causing microorganisms, I’ve found you’ll get about twice the life out of your sponge.
And speaking of your microwave…
Natural Kitchen Cleaning Trick #3:
Clean Your Microwave Quickly & Easily with One Household Item
Cleaning Item Needed: Lemon
Did someone’s chili decide to explode all over your microwave? Or what about the time when your oatmeal got too hot and spilled all over the microwave turnstile?
You’ll love this fresh and easy way to keep your microwave clean. Ready?
Slice a fresh lemon in half lengthwise. Place one lemon half (cut side up) in the microwave and heat for about 20-30 seconds (you want it warm enough for the juices to release, but not so hot that you can’t touch it).
Then simply rub the cut side of the lemon all over the microwave. Squeeze the lemon a little as you work to release the powerful cleaning action. Wipe it up with a damp paper towel.
Yes, that’s it! Well, if you want more to do (and your microwave needs it) you can repeat the process with the second half of the lemon.
Otherwise, slice off a ring or two of the lemon, place the lemon ring(s) in a cup of cold ice water and put your feet up for a minute. If your house is like mine, sixty seconds is just about how long you’ll be able to stay still before someone needs you for something else.
